The skin and tissues of the face are among the most delicate anywhere on the body. Areas like the neck and brows begin to droop and sag as early as your 40’s. Many patients inquire about getting facelift surgery to treat these concerns, and that is a very effective option. For others who may not be ready for surgery, we offer another choice: Ultherapy. New Jersey patients can undergo this breakthrough skin-firming treatment at our Laser and Skin Rejuvenation Center.
How It Works
Ultherapy is a first-of-its-kind procedure that uses ultrasound energy to rejuvenate sagging skin. Cleared by the FDA, the device safely sends ultrasound energy into the deeper tissues of facial skin to promote the growth of collagen. Collagen is a naturally occurring protein that keeps skin looking healthy and toned, but it naturally diminishes as we age.
Ultherapy jump-starts our skin to produce new collagen at the deepest levels, leaving the visible skin on top smoother and tighter over the course of 2 to 3 months. During the procedure, surface skin is unharmed. We use Ultherapy to address the same skin structures as a facelift, but in a completely non-invasive way. If your skin retains most of its elasticity but you are concerned about excess fat causing a double chin, you may be a good candidate for the non-surgical KYBELLA® treatments.
What to Expect
Before an Ultherapy treatment, we clean your skin and apply a topical gel. Then we pass the Ultherapy handpiece over the skin, targeting areas of concern that can include the jawline, neck, and brow. The length of the procedure depends on the size of the treatment area, but most sessions range from about 45 to 90 minutes.
Our New Jersey patients interested in a face, neck, or brow lift are often pleased to find that with Ultherapy, they can usually return to their normal activities immediately after treatment. Patients sometimes notice mild redness, swelling, or sensitivity for a few days.
Natural-looking results continue to improve over a few months as the skin rebuilds its stores of collagen. New Jersey patients appreciate how effective this non-invasive treatment can be, although it may not be appropriate for those with very advanced signs of aging. During your consultation, Dr. Herbstman will evaluate your skin and recommend a procedure that will meet your goals.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I need more than 1 treatment?
Most patients are very satisfied with their results after a single treatment. Some people who want additional skin tightening may return after 6 months for a second procedure.
When will I see the results?
Ultherapy works by promoting the growth of new collagen, a natural process that gradually lifts and tightens your skin. Most patients see continued improvements over the course of 3 to 4 months.
How long will the results last?
In most cases, Ultherapy produces results that last for up to 2 years. Although Ultherapy can help turn back the clock, the natural aging process continues. Patients often come in for additional treatments when their results begin to fade.
What does an Ultherapy treatment cost?
The cost depends on the area or areas treated, but generally the cost is upward of about $1,000.
Does it hurt?
The ultrasound technology uses heat to target tissue below the surface of the skin. Sensations vary from patient to patient, from tingling to some discomfort. Any discomfort is temporary and indicates that the collagen-building process is being triggered.
How long does recovery take?
One of Ultherapy’s advantages is that the non-surgical treatment doesn’t require any downtime. You can return to work the same day if desired. There may be some slight redness for about an hour after the procedure. In rare cases patients report slight swelling, tingling, or tenderness, but those side effects are mild and temporary.
