Women and men interested in the KYBELLA “double chin shot” choose Contemporary Plastic Surgery, where Dr. Robert Herbstman consistently gets excellent results using the groundbreaking non-surgical cosmetic treatment. This FDA-approved treatment reduces fat below the chin, resulting in a more refined profile and a slimmer look for the entire face — all with little downtime and long-lasting results.
How KYBELLA Works
KYBELLA is the first injectable treatment approved by the FDA specifically to reduce submental fat (the fat below the chin). It is clinically proven to minimize the appearance of a double chin.
KYBELLA is made of deoxycholic acid, a molecule that occurs naturally in the body that helps break down and absorb dietary fat. When Dr. Herbstman injects KYBELLA, it destroys fat cells just below the skin. The body gradually gets rid of the destroyed fat cells through normal metabolic functioning. Once destroyed, the fat cells are gone for good.
What to Expect
KYBELLA works gradually to reduce fat over the course of multiple treatment sessions. Most patients see the desired results after 2 to 4 appointments, which are scheduled at least a month apart. Dr. Herbstman customizes each treatment based on your cosmetic goals and the physical exam we perform during your consultation.
The treatments occur in our office and last about 15 to 20 minutes. They begin with an assistant cleansing your chin and neck area. Dr. Herbstman then marks a grid showing specific injection locations based on your customized treatment plan. Most patients experience little discomfort during the injections, which each last just a brief moment. We pretreat using an iced compress to decrease any injection discomfort.
KYBELLA is an excellent alternative to neck liposuction for patients who would rather not have a surgical procedure. Men and women who have developed a double chin with age should have relatively good skin elasticity to benefit from KYBELLA treatments. If you have lax, loose skin, Ultherapy® skin tightening treatments or neck lift surgery may be a better option.
Frequently Asked Questions
KYBELLA has shown to be extremely safe. The most common side effects are mild and temporary, usually fading within a few days and not interfering with your daily activities. Swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and hardness in the treatment area typically occur following the injections. More serious side effects are rare. We explain all of the possible effects, but most patients find these signs easy to hide with a scarf.
Dr. Herbstman makes multiple injections during each treatment session. The exact number depends on your specific needs and may vary from treatment to treatment. Many patients have seen the desired results after 2 to 4 treatment sessions.
Destroyed fat cells cannot store or accumulate fat. Up to 20% to 25% of submental fat is typically destroyed in the treatment area after a series of KYBELLA injections. You can maintain your results especially well by practicing a healthy lifestyle.
The FDA approved KYBELLA specifically for treatment of submental fat. Any “off-label” use of KYBELLA as a fat reduction procedure hasn’t been tested and isn’t recommended.
Because your treatment is customized based on your needs, the cost of KYBELLA treatments varies. You will receive a quoted price based on the number of injections Dr. Herbstman plans to administer.
