With the effects of gravity and time, the eyelids may start to droop and sag, even impairing vision in some cases. Permanent puffy bags and wrinkles may also start to form. These common effects of aging might cause a person to look tired or angry. We offer blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) at our New Jersey plastic surgery center as a way to significantly improve the appearance of the eyes and give our patients a rejuvenated, youthful look.
Menopause Made Me Look Tired
Meet Mary Ann, who got eyelid surgery with Dr. Herbstman to make her eyes look brighter and less tired. “I like myself better now with no makeup,” she says. “I’m very comfortable without it because my eyes don’t need all kinds of puffiness creams. I go to work a lot of times with just lipstick and just let it be.”
What to Expect
Sometimes performed in conjunction with face lift or brow lift, this procedure requires about 1 to 2 hours and can be performed under twilight anesthesia. During eyelid surgery, Dr. Herbstman makes incisions underneath the upper lid or below the lashes of the lower lid. These incisions trace the natural lines of the eye and are inconspicuous after healing. He then removes excess fat, trims sagging skin, and tightens the underlying muscles. For younger New Jersey patients a hidden incision inside the lower eyelid can be utilized to remove excess fat pads, leaving no visible scar.
If you are looking for more comprehensive improvement, eyelid surgery can be combined with other facial surgeries such as a facelift, or non-surgical cosmetic rejuvenation with BOTOX® Cosmetic or Fraxel®. Dr. Herbstman has had great success correcting aesthetic problems and enhancing the overall appearance of the face through eyelid surgery. He looks forward to helping you rejuvenate your appearance.
Dr. Herbstman takes a personal approach to each patient’s care. Contact his practice in East Brunswick and Red Bank, New Jersey for more information on eyelid surgery or to request a consultation.
