Our options include:

• Saline implants: These implants have a silicone outer shell filled with sterile saltwater (saline). They are inserted into the breast pocket empty and filled after placement. Saline implants are minimally invasive because the implants are filled post-insertion. If ruptured, the body safely absorbs the saline. Saline implants, however, are more likely to exhibit noticeable rippling, particularly in individuals with thin breast tissue.
• Silicone Gel implants: Silicone gel implants are pre-filled with a form stable or “gummy bear” silicone gel, miming the texture of natural breast tissue. They are less likely to ripple and have a softer, more natural feel than saline implants.  The silicone gel in form-stable implants is more cohesive than older gel implants, so the implant will keep its shape even if the shell breaks. Their structure holds shape for a natural and symmetrical appearance. They are also less likely to ripple or leak than other implant types.

Regardless of age, there’s always a risk for every surgical procedure. Dr. Herbstman thoroughly evaluates potential candidates for breast augmentation to ensure the appropriateness of any procedure. You should also discuss your current medications and medical history with your plastic surgeon to determine your suitability for the procedure. 

Women of all ages are eligible for breast enhancement as long as they are healthy. However, smoking affects the skin and healing ability. If you smoke, it is best to quit before your breast augmentation procedure. 

Everyone recovers differently. You’ll likely experience minor bruising and swelling around the incision or lower part of the breast. You may also experience discomfort or pain when lifting your arms. Our team will prescribe medications and provide nutritional support supplements to ease post-operative pain and inflammation.

Resume lifting heavy items after  3-6 weeks and start driving again, usually within a few days. Return to exercise gradually after 3 weeks. You’ll be required to wear a surgical bra or compression garment to ensure your breasts heal as expected. You’ll heal completely after a few months, and any surgical scars will fade over time.
