Are you bothered by that pesky submental fullness or a “double chin”? Who isn’t? This troubling spot varies in size according to an individual’s genetics, but it tends to worsen with weight gain and aging. Unfortunately, it’s one of those unsightly areas resistant to improvement by diet and exercise alone. That’s why double chin treatments are so popular among our New Jersey patients.
What are my treatment options?
Until recently, treatment was limited to a few techniques, some surgical. Liposuction is the gold standard for fat removal, but it requires an operation. Noninvasive technologies, which freeze or heat tissue effectively elsewhere, have shown unreliable results in the submental area. For the first time, there’s now a targeted procedure to specifically treat a double chin. It’s called KYBELLA, a new FDA-approved injectable product we’re proud to offer at our practice in East Brunswick, New Jersey.
Am I a good candidate for Kybella?
KYBELLA is great for patients that want to take care of that stubborn double chin who don’t want surgery, don’t have a lot of time, and want proven results. Of course, not every patient is a good candidate for KYBELLA: Some patients will be best treated by liposuction. A formal consultation at Contemporary Plastic Surgery can help you determine whether KYBELLA or surgery is the best option for your desired result.
What is KYBELLA? How does it work?
KYBELLA is made up of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the human digestive tract that breaks down dietary fat. With KYBELLA, it’s been processed into a form designed to dissolve away excess fatty tissue deposits. KYBELLA is injected below the skin directly into the submental fat.
What is treatment like? How much does it cost?
Full correction usually requires 2 to 4 treatments, spaced about 1 month apart. Each session takes about 15 minutes. It’s easy to perform, and it requires no anesthetic. The majority of people experience only minor discomfort at the injection site.
Cost depends entirely on the amount of product and number of treatment sessions required.
