Breast Augmentation

Full, shapely breasts can make a woman feel more self-confident and attractive. However, the aging process, pregnancy, and weight loss or gain can all contribute to a significant loss of breast shape and volume. At Contemporary Plastic Surgery, our surgeon provides patients in and around New Jersey with breast augmentation to restore youthful firmness and contour to the breasts. In so doing, they have helped hundreds of patients experience a renewed sense of attractiveness and interpersonal confidence.

To achieve the most aesthetically desirable results, it is important that breast augmentation be approached as both an art and a science. Dr. Herbstman understands this. Drawing on years of extensive training and experience, they have helped countless women realize the ideal figure they had previously only dreamed of having.

We provide our New Jersey patients with breast augmentation on an outpatient basis. The procedure itself lasts approximately one to two hours. There are three different inconspicuous locations in which incisions can be placed: the armpit, underneath the breast crease, or around the areola. New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Herbstman is experienced at performing breast augmentation and using advanced surgical techniques to minimize visible scarring. In most cases, the scar fades considerably in the first few months following the breast augmentation surgery and is barely noticeable once it completely heals.

After the incision is made, the surgeon inserts an empty breast implant through the incision and places the implant either behind, or in front of the chest muscle. The location of breast implants depends on the surgeon’s and the patient’s preferences. Once the breast implants have been properly situated, the surgeon fills them to the desired size and closes the incisions.

Patients can expect to experience some soreness for several days following the breast augmentation procedure. Our surgeon, however, utilizes a pain reduction system involving medication to minimize post-operative pain. Swelling from the surgery may take several weeks to completely subside.

Breast Implants

We offer two types of breast implants at our New Jersey practice: saline-filled and gel-filled. Your surgeon will help you decide which breast implants will best achieve your goals based on your unique expectations and desires.

Saline-filled Breast Implants

Saline breast implants consist of a durable silicone bag filled with sterile IV saline solution. If the implant were to leak, the body would naturally absorb the saline solution without any adverse health effects.

Although implants are not expected to last a lifetime, they are extremely durable and the likelihood of implant leakage during the first ten to fifteen years after implantation is very small. Over time the risk rises slowly. Replacing implants, when necessary, is usually a minor procedure with little to no down time.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Herbstman you will be able to examine the different types of breast implants and determine which implant would best suit your individual desires.

Gel-Filled Breast Implants

The new generation of gel-filled implants is considerably different from their predecessors. In addition to looking and feeling remarkably natural, they have been designed with the recipient’s health and safety fully in mind. Completely approved by the F.D.A., modern silicone implants are comprised of a three-layer shell that significantly reduces the risk of any gel leakage. Despite the thicker shell, the implants still feel extremely soft. Extensive scientific research has demonstrated no medical link between silicone gel-filled breast implants and any illness.

Breast Reduction

A woman with large, sagging breasts may suffer from a variety of painful medical conditions as a result, including back pain, neck pain, skeletal deformities, and skin irritations. Many women, especially younger women, with exceptionally large natural breasts often feel self-conscious or embarrassed as well.

During breast reduction, our New Jersey surgeon removes excess fat, glandular tissue and skin and then reposition the nipple and areola higher on the breast. The result is firmer, more proportionate breasts that alleviate neck and back pain.

Male Breast Reduction

The condition of having enlarged male breasts, or gynecomastia, is relatively common, affecting between 40 and 60 percent of all men. The exact causes of gynecomastia are still unknown, but effective surgical treatment is readily available. Male breast reduction is a procedure in which excess fat, glandular tissue, and in some cases, skin are removed to achieve a flatter, firmer chest that has a more traditionally masculine contour.

Breast Lift

Over time, a variety of uncontrollable factors may affect the youthful appearance and position of a woman’s breast. Pregnancy, nursing, weight loss and gain, gravity, and the natural aging process can cause the breasts to sag and droop.

At our cosmetic surgery center, Dr. Herbstman performs breast lifts in order to restore the breasts’ youthful position and appearance. A breast lift can also reduce the size of the areola or be combined with breast implants to enhance both firmness and size.

During a breast lift, the surgeon removes excess skin and repositions the areola and nipple, lifting them to a higher, more natural-looking position. The entire outpatient procedure requires anywhere from 1 ½ to 3 hours, depending on the level of work needed.

It is important that breast lift patients be aware that, as in all surgical procedures, there will be a scar. Dr. Herbstman is and experienced breast lift surgeon who utilize the most advanced surgical techniques to minimize the appearance of the scar. For most women who undergo breast lift surgery, the resulting scar is acceptable in light of the aesthetic improvement of their breasts.

Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction is commonly performed on women who have breast deformities or have undergone a mastectomy (removal of the breast due to breast cancer). Breast reconstruction can recreate the shape of a natural breast and dramatically improve the appearance of the body. This procedure has been instrumental in restoring a sense of wholeness and quality of life to thousands of patients by enabling them to be confident about their body again.

Dr. Herbstman usually perform breast reconstruction in stages, typically spanning across a six month period. In most cases, immediate reconstruction is performed in coordination with the mastectomy.

Dr. Herbstman is an experienced surgeon who utilize the latest technology and most advanced surgical procedures in order to recreate breasts that look extremely similar to natural breasts. If you are a candidate for breast reconstruction, trust your body to New Jersey’s top breast reconstruction expert.
