Tummy Tuck, Liposuction, and More – Body Contouring in New Jersey

Diet and exercise are, of course, the ideal methods of achieving the physique you desire. However, sometimes the body accumulates stubborn fat deposits that do not respond to ordinary diet and exercise routines. In such cases, surgery may be an effective solution. We offer a variety of body contouring procedures such as tummy tuck and liposuction at our New Jersey cosmetic surgery center to help patients attain a healthier, more attractive figure.

Liposuction

Liposuction is an ideal procedure for individuals who have unsuccessfully tried to eliminate stubborn pockets of fat with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Liposuction is also performed by our New Jersey cosmetic surgeon for post-bariatric patients who need to remove persistent fat deposits in order to achieve their desired body contouring results.

During the liposuction procedure, our New Jersey surgeon inconspicuously places tiny incisions within the natural folds of the skin in the area to be treated. The surgeon then inserts a long, hollow vacuum through the incisions and suctions out the fat deposits. Once the procedure is finished, the tiny incisions are closed.

After liposuction at our New Jersey plastic surgery center, patients will wear a compression garment for several weeks to assist with healing and ensure the skin contours properly to the body’s new curves. Patients can also expect to experience some temporary swelling and discomfort that can easily be controlled by pain medication.

Liposuction is currently one of the most popular body contouring procedures performed at our New Jersey practice because it is a safe and effective procedure that offers significant improvement for patients. Furthermore, if a proper diet and exercise regimen is maintained, the results are permanent. "Tummy Tuck" (Abdominoplasty)

A tummy tuck performed by our New Jersey plastic surgeon flattens the abdominal region by tightening the underlying muscles, removing excess fat, and trimming away extra skin.

Tummy tuck is ideal for people in relatively good shape who are bothered by stubborn fat deposits concentrated in the stomach region. The procedure is very effective for women who have weakened stomach muscles due to multiple pregnancies and men and women whose skin has lost its youthful elasticity due to weight loss.

To begin a tummy tuck, our New Jersey plastic surgeon places an incision below the belly button that extends from hip bone to hip bone. Patients should be aware that this incision leaves a permanent scar. However, utilizing advanced surgical techniques and strategic placement of the incision, our surgeon is able to minimize the visibility of the post-procedural scar. In most cases, the scar can be easily covered by a bikini.

After the incision is created, the surgeon removes excess fat and tightens the abdomen muscles. He then stretches the skin downward, pulling it taut across the altered muscles and trimming the extra skin.

Body Lift

At Contemporary Plastic Surgery, we have particular expertise in body contouring for New Jersey patients who have undergone bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery is a weight-loss procedure usually reserved for the morbidly obese. During bariatric surgery, the surgeon modifies the stomach and small intestines so that the patient is physically unable to eat large quantities of food. These individuals typically achieve massive weight loss. Unfortunately, achieving their weight-loss goal is rarely accompanied by the feelings of self-satisfaction they expected.

When a person gains an extreme amount of weight, the skin stretches to accommodate the extra body mass, permanently losing much of its natural elasticity. Because the skin is no longer capable of shrinking and returning to its original shape, a person who loses this much weight will often be left with excessive drapes of skin. Sometimes these extra folds of skin can make it look as though the person never lost weight at all.

Fortunately, with post-bariatric body contouring, our cosmetic surgeon can reduce and eliminate the extra folds of skin, helping the patient achieve the shapely figure they envisioned after losing weight.

Post-bariatric body contouring at our New Jersey cosmetic surgery center consists of a series of procedures that constitute what is known as a body lift. These procedures include thigh lift, arm lift, liposuction, and tummy tuck.

A body lift can make up for what cannot be accomplished through diet and exercise. A body lift targets the stomach, breasts, arms, back, and thighs, depending on the patient’s individual needs. If the patient is in good health, multiple procedures can be performed simultaneously. If not, a body lift may require multiple surgeries.

Body lift is not for everyone. It is an extensive body contouring procedure that requires a hospital stay and a long recovery period. To determine if this body contouring procedure is safe for the patient, our New Jersey cosmetic surgeon performs a thorough pre-operative examination. During the examination, our surgeon assesses the patient’s health, overall physical condition, and individual contouring needs.

Thigh Lift

Thigh lift is a procedure in which the loose skin around the thighs and buttocks is tightened. Designed to tone the thighs, the procedure incorporates liposuction, the removal of excess skin and tissue, and gentle stretching of the remaining skin. The procedure is done under a general anesthetic and can often be performed as an outpatient operation.

Not every patient is a candidate for body contouring via thigh lift. During a personalized consultation at our New Jersey medical office, our plastic surgeon evaluates each case and recommend the appropriate procedure to meet your needs.

Arm Lift

With age or excessive weight loss, the skin on the upper arm can become loose and flabby. Sometimes combined with liposuction to remove excess fat, arm lift restores the firm, youthful appearance of the upper arm by trimming away excess skin.

To perform arm lift, the surgeon must create an incision that extends from the armpit to the elbow on the inside of the arm. This incision does leave a permanent scar that, although it will fade with time, will always be visible to some degree. However, most patients see the scar as a worthy tradeoff.
