Liposuction - Who is an Ideal Candidate for This Surgery?

It is never easy to deal with the annoying presence of improperly distributed fat. Some people may have a relatively lean physique but the presence of excess fat in a particular area of the body can be very detracting. Sadly, no matter how hard someone diets or exercises, it is impossible to spot reduce these fat deposits through these methods. Thankfully, there is an option for spot reduction and it comes in the form of liposuction. As most people know, liposuction is a surgical procedure intended to remove fat from particular areas of the body. However, most people are unaware of what makes a person a candidate for liposuction. That is why it is helpful to define an ideal candidate. On a baseline level, the ideal candidate for liposuction is someone who is close to his or her ideal weight and would benefit from the removal of five pounds of fat. Contrary to popular belief, liposuction is not meant as a method of losing weight. Instead, it is intended for those that are seeking a reshaping of their physical appearance. As such, the best candidates are not those who are significantly overweight but those who maintain a certain level of physical fitness and close to their ideal weight. Those that have already tried to lose the weight for an extended period of time and achieved no results would be good candidates for the procedure. Of course, those dealing with the presence of unsightly fat deposits also make excellent candidates. Minor or barely visible fat deposits are usually not good "targets" for liposuction since they are not very noticeable. But, anyone who is 20 pounds over their natural weight would make for weak candidates since removing a mere five pounds could be achieved through simple diet modifications. But, those dealing with a stubborn remaining amount of fat would definitely be served well by liposuction.

The rhytidectomy or facelift is one of the most popular and talked about forms of cosmetic surgery available. The rhytidectomy procedure has the ability to get rid of wrinkles, sagging and other signs of aging. After the procedure patients look younger and feel more confident and attractive. If you are considering this procedure it is important to first determine if you are a facelift candidate. This is a serious medical procedure and for that reason not everyone is an ideal candidate.  There are a number of traits that a plastic surgeon considers when he is evaluating whether or not a person is a good facelift candidate. These characteristics are based on a number things, from ability to heal to ability to withstand the surgery at all. Naturally, to every rule there is an exception and only a qualified plastic surgeon can determine whether or not you are or are not a good facelift candidate. Even though you are seeking a rhytidectomy because you feel your skin is showing the signs of age, your skin plays a role in whether or not you are a good facelift candidate. Most plastic surgeons like a person to have some flexibility left in the skin. Without elasticity a facelift may not heal as well or look as natural. In addition to this, your bone structure plays a role in their determination. People with a well-defined facial structure tend to have better results. People with less defined features may need facial implants along with their facelift.  Age and health also play a prominent role in a doctor deciding whether or not you are an ideal facelift candidate. The rhytidectomy procedure is very invasive and you must be in good overall health to withstand the surgery and heal properly. The average age for a facelift candidate is between 40 and 70 years of age. After 70 a person must be evaluated for health issues and healing potential prior to surgery taking place.

What is a Forehead Lift (Brow Lift)? - A General Overview

A forehead lift, also known as a brow lift, is a cosmetic surgery procedure often done in conjunction with a facelift to give the face a smoother, more youthful appearance. In most cases, a facelift is done to help smooth and stretch the bottom half of the face, while a brow lift is used to smooth the top half. It isn't unheard of for a brow lift to be done by itself, but in most cases, it is one half of a single cosmetic procedure.

What to Expect

During the brow lift, a person will have the skin on the forehead smoothed out. Lines, wrinkles, and imperfections are removed with a lifting of the eyebrow line. The result is often a younger, healthier appearance that most folks are quite happy with. Like with most plastic surgery, the cut line and scar are hidden behind the hairline so when your hair grows back, you won't even notice a scar. The cut line is made across the top of the forehead and the skin is pulled up, excess fat is removed and muscles are reshaped.

Recovery and Results

If you are concerned about scarring and the overall appearance of such a cosmetic procedure, you can always ask your plastic surgeon about an endoscopic procedure that often times accomplishes similar results without the scarring. With this procedure, several small cuts are made into the skin and instruments are inserted to accomplish the same fatty tissue removal and muscle reshaping. The recovery time associated with this procedure is difficult to gauge, mostly because it is often done with other procedures at the same time. In general, the pain associated with a brow lift can be taken care of with simple non-prescription strength painkillers and the total recovery time can be as short as a week. When done with facelifts and other surgeries, the recovery time can be longer. Just like with most surgeries, the biggest risk associated with this cosmetic procedure is infection. Other than that, there are often very few complications from forehead lift surgeries, but that doesn't mean you should agree to get one without seriously weighing the risks and benefits first. While this procedure is mostly done with women, an increasing number of men are interested in brow lifts, as well. Talk to your doctor about how a forehead lift could give you a younger-looking appearance.

Breast Implant Placement Options

There are a number of different placement options available for breast implants when it comes to breast augmentation surgery. Each placement option has its benefits and its drawbacks, so it is best to understand just what your options are when determining which breast augmentation will work best for you.

Subglandular

With a subglandular placement, the breast implant is placed above the pectoral muscle, between the muscle and the mammary gland. This method of breast implant placement is commonly used, due to the fact that it is easier to put the implant in place, provides easier access to the implant should the need occur, and provides a shorter healing time after surgery.

Submuscular

Submuscular breast implants are the second most common implant placements that are used. With a submuscular placement, the implant is placed underneath the pectoral muscle. This type of placements makes for a more complex surgery, and definitely causes a longer healing period after surgery. However, many patients feel this is the optimal placement for the implant, because it offers a much more natural looking breast.

Subpectoral

A subpectoral placement for breast implants is somewhat of a hybrid between the submuscular and the subglandular. The subpectoral implant is placed partially under the pectoral muscle, but also in the subglandular position as well. This procedure is becoming more common and is gaining popularity due to the natural appearance that it offers the patient after their breast augmentation surgery.

Subfascial

The subfascial placement for a breast implant is a much more complex method, however it is a placement that takes the best benefits from the subglandular and subpectoral placements, and eliminates almost all of the negative effects of these procedures. With the subfascial placement, fibrous fascia tissue is removed from the front of the pectoral muscles, and the implant is then placed beneath the fascia layer. The surgery is time consuming to ensure that placement is perfect, but the results are well worth it. To find out which placement will work best for you, consult a plastic surgeon today.

Rhinoplasty – Candidacy and Results

It might seem odd, or even mean, that the name of the surgery to correct the appearance of a nose sounds similar to rhinoceros, a bulky animal with a large horn on its nose. The name rhinoplasty is not a nod to the horned-nose mammal. It is simply a combination of the Greek words for "nose" (rhinos) and "to shape" (plassein). Casually referred to as a nose job or nose surgery, rhinoplasty surgery does just what the name indicates, it reshapes the nose. In many cases rhinoplasty is performed as a cosmetic surgery procedure; however, the procedure can also be used as a reconstructive surgery to correct a nasal defect, like a deviated septum.

Nose Job Candidates

Rhinoplasty candidates should be in at least their mid-teens. In most cases, girls can get a nose job at an earlier age than boys. It is recommended that female nose reshaping candidates should be at least 14; male patients should be a few years older. As with other surgeries, rhinoplasty candidates should be aware of the possibilities and limitations of nose surgery. Plastic surgeons should discuss the patient's expectations of the surgery and ensure that the possible outcome of the surgery will match those expectations.

Rhinoplasty Results

Depending on the patient's needs, the nose can be reshaped through various means. Some rhinoplasty surgeries only alter the structure of the nose slightly, but produce amazing results. Rhinoplasty can be performed on the bridge of the nose, the tip of the nose, or the interior of the nose. In some cases, implants may be added to the nose to better reshape the nose to meet the patient's needs. This technique is often used in ethnic rhinoplasty procedures. Unfortunately, some rhinoplasty surgeries do not go as well as expected. In these cases, a revision rhinoplasty may be needed to correct any errors from the original nose job. Because of the possibility of errors, it is important to use a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive rhinoplasty experience when you get a nose job.

Plastic Surgery Financing Options

More patients than ever are seeking plastic surgery due to the ease of obtaining financing to manage the costs associated with surgery. In fact, many plastic surgeons are going out of their way to provide a range of payment options to accommodate their patients. Some even work with local financing companies to help patients set up affordable monthly payment plans. At Contemporary Plastic Surgery we are happy to discuss financing options with prospective patients. Contact our cosmetic surgery center in New Jersey to discuss financing options with our staff.

Exploring Financing Options

Many people who have been interested in cosmetic enhancement have decided not to go through with treatment due to the costs associated with their procedure. What these potential patients may not realize is that with careful planning, financing can make plastic surgery procedures such as liposuction, breast augmentation, and face lift surgery affordable for almost every budget. Companies such as CareCredit and Capital One offer monthly payment plans that can be customized for every income. Generally these financing companies will cover procedure costs up to $25,000.

Buyer Beware

For some it may be tempting to price shop when choosing a plastic surgeon. It is important to base your choice of a plastic surgeon on merit, not on prices. Putting up more money to secure a qualified plastic surgeon can actually lower costs in the long-run, reducing the risk of serious side effects and making it less likely you will need a follow-up procedure.
